When I look at a label and see the phrase “Proprietary Formula,” it tells me that the company doesn’t want me to know what ingredients are in their product. Amberen does things differently. They have a proprietary formula, but they’ve also got nothing to hide. They list their ingredients on every package, and scientists have tested those ingredients for years to make sure they’re safe.
The primary ingredient
Of course I still decided to track down some information. I found out that Amberen’s primary ingredient is a compound that acts as a signaling molecule… OK, I’m no scientist. I can’t really explain what it does. What’s important is that the FDA lists this ingredient under the category of “substances generally recognized as safe when used in accordance with good manufacturing or feeding practice.” That’s all I really needed to know, right?
What about the other ingredients?
I won’t pretend that I understand all of their ingredients and how they do what they do. What I do get is that manufacturers don’t share this kind of ingredient information unless they believe in the safety of their product.
Has Amberen been tested to prove it’s safe?
I could tell you a thing or 2 about “..randomized, double blind, placebo controlled clinical trials” and analysis by authorities on Gerontology, Endocrinology, Pharmacology and Toxicology. All that testing showed Amberen’s ingredients and formula are safe. And that’s all we really need to know. If you want to know more, you can read my full review of Amberen here.
